Are there any Chicago area collectors on the forums? Will you be attending the future shows in Itasca, Schaumburg, Rosement, etc.?

Look for the tallest dealer in the room and you'll probably find James.

I go to some of the smaller shows now and then. At the larger Chicago-area shows, I can be found at James' table shooting coin pictures.

I live in St.Charles. I leave for Florida tomorrow, so I will not be at any shows here until The Central States Numismatic Society in Spring, but I'm looking forward to my first Fun Show in January.

I will be there.Mostly just for the atmospere.Always a good experience.Most coin collectors/dealers are polite and well mannered.We get a raw deal in the public eyes,by people that don't really collect or sell coins.If they would attend some of these big shows,they would find out the truth of coin collecting.Just my 2 cents.

Very good question.
I'd say about 85-90% of my purchases are meant for flips, investment, and trading. If I feel that I'm getting a very good bargain, I'll purchase the coin.
However, I still do have a personal collection... I am looking to specialize in the coins mentioned in my "user signature"- nicely toned silver US coins, pre-1900 gold coins, and Syrian coins. I'm currently on a hunt to find a really good 1918 Abraham Lincoln Commemorative, and oddly enough, looking for a nice Spanish 8 Reales. I am picky, though... if I'm gonna keep a coin and skip out on the profit, it better be one that I love.

Awesome! I've only been to one show, and most people there were very helpful, kind, courteous, and so forth. I don't know why I didn't get into this stuff sooner. Even if I don't end up buying much, I get a kick out of seeing what's available.
