52 Topps Mantle Question

Okay as some of you may know I dont collect baseball cards but had a question on the 52' Topps Mantle. Why is it sought after as the mantle to have. I assume the 51 Bowman is his true rookie card. I have just always wondered this but never asked. Thanks!!

    Topps is considered the premiere baseball card company. Bowman was like the ugly, red headed stepchild. That is why some people hold the Mantles first Topps issue in higher regard.

    It's the first topps card of mantle

    It's a high number
    It came out late in year
    Topps floated high number excess stock on a garbage barge in the Hudson (one i still look for from time to time)
    Hence it became more scarce to come by

    Also mantle was a god and people just love him.
