1968-S Jefferson.....Step right up....Best one yet.

I've been searching for the elusive '68-S, 6 Step Jefferson. So far, this is the best I have come up with.

I think this one has a pretty good shot at the FS designation. I am also thinking 65 for the grade.

Looking for some more opinions......

    Spectacular.

It can make it with a "bump" but maybe not without it.

They don't come much nicer and they very very rarely come with this much step detail. I believe
there is only Oreville's coin already graded FS. I don't remember it being as gemmy.

Is this a mint set coin?

    Bump? >>

It looks like it could go either way from the photos. Maybe it will get the "benefit of the doubt"
since it's such a tough coin.

Yes, that's full steps. Anytime you can find a nice 6545 step count like this coin plus more, it's full steps to us old timers. PCGS and NGC might not think so but they haven't looked as long as some of us. ANACS would certify that FS because that's the way collectors wanted it. They knew this was one of those dates that was virtually impossible to find with 5 complete steps. And before some of you start barking it's not, let's see your 5 complete steppers for this date. Not that 5 complete steppers don't exist, they're just not that easy to come by. And yes, they would be valued higher than a quarter step count.
Another thing that we need to watch out for is a weaker reverse strike that would cause the steps to fill in more. But with this date, collectors won't be too picky.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

Damn Randy, you're good. You need to sell those Buffalo nickels and focus on Jeffersons.

PCGS would FS this coin back in 2000-2002, imo. But ever since the 1960-D FS fiasco (where big money was lost by an individual unfortunately) PCGS has become EXTREMELY TIGHT in designating nearly any Jefferson Nickel as "Full Steps." So, with that in mind, I believe the 68-S in question will not receive the Full Steps designation from PCGS today. Nonetheless it's still an interesting coin.
