"Buy It Now" Fun on Ebay

I just made a offer on a coin on Ebay that was being sold "Buy It Now" with "Best Offer". I made the guy a offer and he makes a counter-offer $1.00 off the "Buy It Now" price. imageimageimage

you can always make another offer for $1.00 less than your original offer LOL but you run the risk of being blocked

The dangerous yet seductive dance of ebay
WTB... errors, New Orleans gold, and circulated 20th key date coins!
  • At least it was a $1, I received a counter-offer of $0.07 below the buy it now price on a $777.77 coin.

  • How serious was your offer? Was it close to his asking price?

I have done this before in my auctions in response to a low baller. I figure if he wants to offer me 25% of retail for my item, I should at least offer him a substantial discount on my BIN price - usually $1.00. Sometimes $0.01. It is my little stress reliever to deal with the low baller scum bags on there.

I've done this before but usually with the following note: Oops. I didn't mean to put a BIN on this auction. I have this coin priced on ebay at my best price.

As a seller you have to choose: List at best price or add 10-20% and expect an offer. I find I do better with the latter as people like to feel like they are getting a deal. Sale price is the same. Sometimes I get lucky and someone hits BIN at my 15% inflated price.

Item was listed at $595.00, my offer was at the current price guide value of $565.00, counter offer was for $590.00, almost wish I had taken it as looking for something like it lead to spending $1970.00 on a Saint.

Edit to add both winner and loser frequent this forum.....image

If you think the seller is being greedy, then just promptly decline the seller's counter-offer. Then come back in 2 weeks and make your original offer at the same price and we'll see if it looks better to the seller at that time.

Most sellers shouldn't waste your time or theirs by putting in the make an offer. Maybe the true retail is far lower than you think it is. To refer to a potential customer in this way shows disrespect. Many price guides are inaccurate showing prices that are too high on some coins and dramatically low on others. The bad part is that different guides may be reversed in which ones are high, low or correct. Since we don't all use the same guide you might just cut each other a little slack.

Another thing that happens is the market price changes. Somtimes a dealer lists a coin at $1000 and when he gots an offer for $950 he checks and sees that they are selling for $1050. I've done that. In that case I countered with the BIN price with a note that I would honor my BIN price for 24 hours and then I'm raising my price to $1150 obo.

I don't know the situation surrounding your deal but I just wanted to present a situation where it wasn't a LOL.
