"Buy It Now" Fun on Ebay

I just made a offer on a coin on Ebay that was being sold "Buy It Now" with "Best Offer". I made the guy a offer and he makes a counter-offer $1.00 off the "Buy It Now" price.

$55.00 coin.
<< <i>At least it was a $1, I received a counter-offer of $0.07 below the buy it now price on a $777.77 coin. >>
Wow!
I have done this before in my auctions in response to a low baller. I figure if he wants to offer me 25% of retail for my item, I should at least offer him a substantial discount on my BIN price - usually $1.00. Sometimes $0.01. It is my little stress reliever to deal with the low baller scum bags on there.
<< <i>How serious was your offer? Was it close to his asking price?

So he was telling you where to stick your offer.
As a seller you have to choose: List at best price or add 10-20% and expect an offer. I find I do better with the latter as people like to feel like they are getting a deal. Sale price is the same. Sometimes I get lucky and someone hits BIN at my 15% inflated price.

Most sellers shouldn't waste your time or theirs by putting in the make an offer. Maybe the true retail is far lower than you think it is. To refer to a potential customer in this way shows disrespect. Many price guides are inaccurate showing prices that are too high on some coins and dramatically low on others. The bad part is that different guides may be reversed in which ones are high, low or correct. Since we don't all use the same guide you might just cut each other a little slack.

Another thing that happens is the market price changes. Somtimes a dealer lists a coin at $1000 and when he gots an offer for $950 he checks and sees that they are selling for $1050. I've done that. In that case I countered with the BIN price with a note that I would honor my BIN price for 24 hours and then I'm raising my price to $1150 obo.
I don't know the situation surrounding your deal but I just wanted to present a situation where it wasn't a LOL.
