Maven and I met the Dallas Mavericks today, pics enclosed

Maven and I found out today that we won a couple passes for a Mavericks team autograph signing tomorrow. We weren't really prepared to win so we dont have any neat items to get signed. We can both take an item. I've got a Nowitzki jersey that I've held onto in case I run across him, so that is what I'll get Dirk to sign. Other then the run of the mill basketballs, what do y'all think would make a nifty piece for display? I don't want to spend a lot of money like an authentic jersey or something like that. Just looking for a neat display idea for something from Wal Mart or somewhere local that would hold sigs well and would look neat in a sports room.

Any suggestions?

Is this year's Mavs yearbook available yet? If so, it's the best cheap item for getting team-signed.

How about a replica NBA championship trophy? Not sure of they make those but would be cool. Or a Sport Illustrated commmerative issue

Maybe the gift shop will be open beforehand. Yearbook sounds good but tough to display. A baseball sounds kind of cool or a small basketball maybe. Wuld love a replica trophy but it's not the same guys anymore

Does home depot sell those floor squares individually or do you have to buy a whole pallet?

Mike, I believe they sell them individually.

They used to give you samples, but now they charge a couple of bucks from them. There may be samples that would be a good size to display single signatures.

If they do, that'll be the choice I think. We can add an emblem sticker and have a neat display piece

Kinda sad when mike says it's not the same guys anymore.
They just won the title 15 or 16 months ago.
  • It would be nice to find a licensed Mavericks logo 8x10 and then have them all sign it. I/O basketball or hat would be good too.

Just got home. Have the Notre Dame game DVR'd, so no spoilers please if you reply to my thread.

We stopped by Home Depot on the way up, but they wouldn't let us buy enough small squares, so we went to Wal Mart instead. We got a basketball first, but Maven wanted something that would hang on her wall, so we put the ball up, and bought a $12 wooden plaque and when we got to the arena, we decorated it with a $4 puffy emblem. Total cost $16, and a happy dad and a happy kid.

The Mavericks know how to run a signing, LOL. We both got the whole team!! I got Dirk on a nice swingman jersey and the rest on a team sheet, and Maven got her plaque signed. Here's some pics:

Whoops, that was my bad typing. We got one each so I used my Dirk for the jersey and got the rest on the team sheet. Maven got all of them on her plaque

  • Thanks for sharing those pictures. Ive seen your auto stuff you've shared in the past along with your SMR article. Your have quite the collection of things signed. Quite an amazing collection actually.

Thanks guys. It was a fun event. Dan, I don't know if Cuban was there or not but he wasn't part of the signing. They were having an open practice afterwards but I wanted to get home to watch the Notre Dame game. What a game that was! A great day for sports around my house. Never disappointing when the Longhorns get thrashed either. (just would rather they get thrashed by another Texas school and not Oklahoma, but it is what it is.) I think I'm going in two weeks to watch Notre Dame play in Norman, Oklahoma. The rest of my family has theatre that day so I might be doing the trip solo.

Mike, what an awesome idea man! I'm sure your daughter, cutie by the way, will remember this forever. I dig that plaque man! Nice outing.

Funny, I noticed four of them were left handed, way above the normal average. Interesting.
