Mercury Dime Question on Full Bands

Can someone post pictures of simular mercury dimes that are Full Bands and Not Full Bands?

I am not understanding the full bands.

I am putting a set of Mercury Dimes together for my wife and the coins I have all look the same, but some do not state Full Bands on the PCGS slabs.

Hit up HA.com and look through their auction result archives. They have the best photos for public use image

    Or try google-ing it.

  • Thank you everyone.

I see now. The one I was looking at looks like the PCGS Link that would not get full bands.

I think it applies to all the bands, not just the middle, even though that is the most obvious.

But, then maybe I'm all wet....have been that a lot lately it seems!

No I beleive that you are correct its just that the middle bands are the most difficult to get fully struck up.

It is my understanding that both services use the middle band only. But any break or weakness on it will cause a no bands ruling.

  • Is this a requested service or does pcgs automatically label a mercury dime if it is full bands ?
    Thanks
  • Thanks for asking this question Nickcap. I have been puzzled by this for a while.

Full bans are a designation applied if they are present. No need to request the designation. This is true for full bans, full bell lines in Franklin halves and full head on standing liberty quarters as well. Good luck with your new collection. You might want to read David Lange's book on the series. While the rarity figures are dated, it is a great source of information.
