Sportlots Questions

I have bought a few cards from this site and have be very pleased with the transaction.

I am currently out of work and will be off for a few months and I am thinking about uploading
all my unwanted common / sem stars to there site but there fees seem to be crazy. Is this a site
to sell commons looking at the fee structure it doesn't seem so?

Montly Fee Schedule Low Amt High Amt Fee Pct.
$0.00 $4.99 75%
$5.00 $24.99 50%
$25.00 $49.99 35%
$50.00 $99.99 27%
$100.00 $199.99 23%
$200.00 $299.99 20%
$300.00 $499.99 18%
$500.00 $999.99 17%
$1000.00 $1499.99 16%
$1500.00 Above 15%

Is there away to upload your inventory and then activate it to the site so you don't get killed
by the fees while your loading your inventory and selling a few dollars of cards here and there?

  • Those fees suck on low value cards.

Those fees are for TOTAL monthly sales, not individual cards.
Also, the minimum sale price is 18 cents, even if you get hit with a 75% fee, isn't 4.5cents decent for junk commons?

Make sure you organize your cards prior to starting to upload, so the inputting process will be efficient. Also, so finding the sold cards will be quick.

Considering that selling junk commons and low value cards usually results in a net of Zero, any money is good. Plus, and I know the shipping enemies here will hate this, but I charge a buck for up to 4 cards....or you can ship premium for $2.95 for up to 100 cards, you will make a little money on the shipping as well. I sell between 50 and 100 cards a month through my inventory and I make an average of about 25 cents a card when factoring in shipping and although $25 a month isnt that much, I only have about 6k in inventory...so a larger inventory would yield more.

As a tip...dont waste your time listing things like 88-93 Topps/Donruss/etc. You will sell more cards and at larger amounts if you list inserts, cards that they didnt make factory sets of, parallels and more.

    This too.

Inserts, parallels, older cards tend to get scooped up faster. Price them competitively and they'll move. Auctions work as well depending on the player/card. And the fees are much lower.

A lot of sellers use PWEs to ship but they also price their shipping accordingly. I personally ship via bubble mailers and I note that as well in my listings/on my account. I also charge accordingly--$2.00 for shipping.

Giving fair prices, grading properly, adding pictures on higher value cards (don't laugh, but anything over $2.00) and not screwing a buyer on shipping (i.e charging $2-3 and shipping in a PWE) will result in serious repeat business. You'll also find buyers that'll buy more cards from you if your prices are fair and they can bundle a bunch in one shipping. I've both sold 30-40 individual cards to one buyer and bought 30-40 cards in one clip from a seller on numerous occasions.

Lastly, keep in mind how your account is credited. The guys at sportlots credit accounts the first of the month. So if you sell anything during that month, you won't see and credit until well after you shipped cards out. So plan accordingly.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

I recently had them pull my entire inventory off of the site due to their high fees and lack of quality customer service.

I had thought of selling there but I also think the fees are way too high...............Just think, if you had a twenty dollar card and that was your only sale of the month, you would only get $10.00. I know it would be good for selling junk but it seems so time consuming for just the little you may make selling commons.

  • I listed a few cards. While its nice to list things for sale, the navigation of the site needs a LOT of work. It is awful to get around. Also as a seller, it is very difficult to manage your items. I am sure there is a better way to put it together, but at the moment its very primitive in its function and look.

In situations like this, I go with the auction route. The majority of cards I have in inventory are cards that would never sell in any scenario. The better ones I put in auction and the rest, if I sold them, I would sell on ebay...though I hate ebay
