For Those Who Might Appreciate a 1807 Small Stars CBH Used And Not Abused

stmanstman Posts: 11,352 ✭✭✭✭✭
This 1807 CBH small stars came in a couple weeks ago. This variety of the four die-pairings is a tougher one to find in decent condition. Known for their weak strikes this one isn't bad IMO. If anyone would like to read more information on this year that hasn't seen the thread I did years ago, here is a link. 1807 Thread

And here is the coin that came with a very nice hat. It is the O-113a variety with the associated die-cracks on both sides. Of course the image is by Mark Goodman.

    Wow, now that's a stunning '07 Bustie!

    It's gotta be a 45, if it's cert'd that is. image

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed there isn't really that much wear. As we know grading is all over the place on these.

I don't think 45, but why does it have to be certified to grade it?image

I'm sure many know the assigned grade. I might give my opinion later. Thanks for the comments all.

Only used a little tiny bit ! It's very sharp for the variety, isn't it ?
You'd really need to be able to study the surfaces to grade a 113a acurately....could be mint state for all i know image

What a great looking coin. I dig the reverse die cracks. It would go well with my other one!

As long as it comes with a sticker... Sorry, I couldn't resist. image

Very nice circ example for the small stars variety.

    Should grade VF 30-35.

I just sold my duplicate AU 58+ for a nice profit, and this one should do well down the line.

    Hey stman.
I am glad I didn't miss this thread.
Very nice SS you got there. She looks to have AU luster from those pics/scan (?)
Wear looks XF but the number doesn't mean as much as the way everything looks to
be coming together nicely on this one. Not much wear at all but all in the usual area for
    a early type CBH.
That is a very nice coin my friend and I'm sure it got the full stman once over.
Looked at in angles even a geometry teacher can only envy.

    Nice score stman.
If you got her for 30 money you stole that one.
A great example where an experienced collector can score from the plastic game.
The Kool Aid drinkers don't see this advantage and would just argue that this coin is
a 30 because the label says so.
    You won this one buddy.

Hey you know.....the more I look at it.....the label does say 30 so how about selling her to me for 5% under 30 money ?

JRocco, Thanks for the good words. As I usually say grading is overrated. For years about all I did was buy these 1807's and study them very intensely.
I'd like to think I understand them well. That said, I will state this is the nicest VF-30 I have seen. These can be tough to grade as you know.

As good as the image is there is more life to the coin in person. I will just say without getting into a debate with others that all things considered I paid appropriately
for the quality of the coin. Hope things are well my friend. And yes, I did give the piece a quick glance when I received itimage.

The 1807 Small Stars half (O-113) is one of my favorite coins. Here is one I sold a while ago, which I still miss:
