Could Have Been a Bust Day at my Bank...

I am a coin roll hunter, lately I have been finding that banks have mostly new coins in pennies and nickels. Then I ask for halves. The teller said she only had $6 worth and I took them...

Two 40% and one 90% from '64 - the first of the latter I have found in over a year.

<< <i>Question for all coin roll hunters. I'm still rather new to numismatics, and I have recently learned that you really can find treasures if you search hard enough in coin rolls. I've also heard that some people can tell, while looking through a roll, whether or not they've "struck silver" simply by looking at the side of a coin, or, I guess, the side of a coin roll. Could you tell me what I'm supposed to be looking for?
Thanks! >>
That is true, but have to double check because some of the 40% silver halves have coppery coloured cores that can look deceptively like they are the later 1971 on up coins. I can check hundreds of dollars worth of halves and turn up nothing, then ask for the $6 they had this afternoon and turn up the one 90% and the two 40%. About three weeks ago I found 38 of the 40% in one bank.
