Question on Japanese Coin

I found a number of Japanese Bu (ichibu) rectangular coins in a shop recently and bought a couple because they were neat. These were the KM# C16 type struck 1837-1854. I was wondering if anyone knew if these were over-struck on existing coins at all? One of them shows clear signs of being over-struck on another coin. See the images below.

To my eye, this coin looks like it was overstruck on another that was somewhat off center.
