There's no such thing as an 1817 Trade dollar, so wouldn't think fall under the "Carr Rule" of fantasy pieces? How is that coin any different from this one?

Yes, you are probably correct. I did not report this 1817cc dollar auction. I did write the seller and explained that the mint in CC did not even open 'till 1870 and CC itself did not exist until 1858. Said he knew that and thought it was just a cool piece.
