Five points sure does make a big difference...

I bought these two coins in the last year. Both are gorgeous, although they have much different looks.

The first is graded PCGS XF40, the second PCGS VF35. Both have luster that is much more prevalent than most coins of similar grade.
Just thought I would share and show what you can get for five points. image

The XF40 is killer ... great eye appeal
  • Me to I like both!!! I like the original look on the second one. The 1st one has a real nice toning factor to it.

The next time they get sent in it could be 15 points. First one could get EF45 and the other VF30image

The labels would say there is 5 points difference, but the 40 is more like a 44 and the 35 is more like a 31.

Yeah. It's not just the color. Significant wear difference on the reverses for just a 5 point spread!

I like them both very much. I love that you can find affordable CBH's in the vf - xf range with plenty of luster and appeal.

The second one is just suffering from a weak strike, not extensive wear.

I've seen both coins. The 40 has eye popping color and luster. More luster than many AU's. And proof-like surfaces, especially the reverse. I'd send it back for a regrade.

The 35 has a wonderful, wholesome look with very genuine color. Even the thick toning can't hide the luster. A neat coin.

Both coins have very very similar wear with coin number 2 possibly a little less wear.

    JRocco,

I agree. Both have very similar amounts of wear. Much of the reverse "wear" is strike. The top one was cracked out of an ANACS AU53 holder. PCGS called it a 40! As it is, I think it maybe the finest XF40 I've ever seen.

May send it to CAC sometime to see if it gets the gold sticker.

I agree too. Coin number one should be in a 45 holder without question.

    I'd take the 101 as a 35 Any Day....the 105 is a 50.
