Besides MadMarty....

Obviously MadMarty is the most prolific and best known (to me) collector of holed coins. My question is this.....besides him, does anyone else collect these? If so, how does one determine value when making

a purchase? Who would rank second (to the "Mad one") overall in this category?

lordmarcovan is a serious collector of holed coins.

I would suggest that of the people who post on these message forums (and folks of the past who once posted here), LordMarcovan is the number one collector.

I would suggest LordM likely gets top billing

haha...I thought that MadMarty and Lordmarcovan were the same person....the consensus is that I was wrong....sorry.....can I restart my thread? Who's second to Lordmarcovan in collecting these? Again, if one

were to want to start a collection of these how would you determine value? 1/2? 1/3? 1/4 of graysheet?

I would suggest that you are correct.

But then, I'm a nothing that knows very little for sure anymore.

I still have all of my teeth, no soup needed, thanks. Now, can we get down to the "meat" of the thread? Something I can chew on.... How to determine values of holed coins?

Weigh them then subtract the missing percentage from their normal value.

Well even though I have been dismissed..........I would only add a suggestion........if you have a question.........for example....How to determine values of holed coins?

Maybe it would be better to just ask it......JMO

Lordmarcovan had a holed coin that sold for a lot of money. Thigpen , another member here, also collected holed coins. I'm not sure how to actually determine values of them, other than being rare/keydate/etc., Those holed almost always "hold" their value.

I'd say that the vast majority of holed coins go for somewhere between melt and face value...

Of course if you were looking for a price on a flowing hair dollar let's say... I don't know, 1/2 to 1/4 of what a decent one would go for in the same grade ?

Just guessing though, ask Lord M.

I had to pass up an 1804 dollar with a small clip because the seller wouldn't deduct a few cents for it. image

I think holed coins look neat on keychains - here's mine. (1879-CC!)

I've gone a little crazy with my keychain, which has now more holed coins than keys on it:

    1826 large Cent
    Columbian Half
    Seated Half Dime
    Seated Dime
    Two Cent
    Three Cent Nickel

I almost bought a holed seated dollar some time ago to put on there but it would have gotten too heavy.
