NewP Somers Island Shilling Dickeson Copy

.....OK it's a "copy" beat me with sticks..... But I'm happy finding and buying this, a Rarity in its own right. Impossible to confuse with an original 1616 issue as the overall engraving is modern in "quality". Also, it is much thicker and heavier. Another design change is the cloud of smoke from the firing cannon on the ship. Struck in the 1850s the ship die was also paired with several odd Muleings. QDB in the new Whitman colonial book gives this Dickeson copy a rarity rating of URS 6, pretty much the number of genuine 1616 pieces. Stacks has one of these in their archives in MS which brought over $900. I rather like this NewP looking all of 1850 with some nice patina. Not here yet....

<< <i>Unless I'm missing something drastic, that's not a Dickeson copy. Rather, a modern(ish) replica for tourists. >>
Correct, modern copy -

<< <i>If you like this sort of thing, there is an interesting pair of... somethings... on eBay now. The seller claims that they are a Wuesthoff hub trial set. I don't think that's right. I found enough differences between those pieces and some genuine Wuesthoff strikes in the Stack's archives. On the other hand, it took me quite a while to find the differences. Whatever these are, the quality is far better than the piece in the OP. >>
I agree that these are c. 1960. Don't know who struck them. Could have been Bashlow, for that matter.
