Awesome LMC cud I found today

I found a 95 DDO too but thought this one would be a lot more interesting to post:

That is a cud in anyone's book.
And we just mentioned the scarcity of reverse cuds on modern day Lincolns. Excellent find image

Nice doubling on the B in Liberty too. Cool find!

What is that, a large date or something to that effect?
  • The variety is classified as an Obverse Die Clash. The large reverse die break is actually secondary. There are remnants of LIBERTY above and to the left of the date.

Huh, I had no idea the CPG was including cuds now. Chris is absolutely right, though, and it does appear to be quite scarce. The #1 Lincoln Memorial Complete Variety registry set is missing only three coins, and this is one of them.

  • It is rather odd why they felt the need to include this particular example as part of the CP group of die varieties. Since it has a -400 variety code (kind of like the old dewey decimal library system), it is categorized and grouped within the obverse variety, miscellaneous group. As they have described, this as an obverse die clash, even though the most obvious part of this "variety" is the "CUD".

I think the reason they put this one in the CPG isn't just the CUD.
It has an imprint of LIBERTY above the date. They just say it's not a doubled die but think in some unexplained way it's related to the CUD. (even though that makes no sense haha) So it's sort of a rare mystery variety.
It does not mention the doubled B of LIBERTY but it shows clearly on this coin.

You can see faintly the extra LIBERTY in your pics, it goes from above the date to Abes throat.

    Neat find!!!

    Added:
The missing letters in the motto are not grease filled, it's normal for the side opposite of a CUD to be missing details like that in the same area of the CUD because the metal fills up into the CUD on the rev die instead of filling the obv die in that area.

Excellent find! Looks like it is an attractive circulated example, too.

Nice job on the 1995 DDO as well. Seems like most of those were taken out of circulation long ago.

It's a cud with a double counterclash. Here's more info:
