ROFL! eBay must have their revenues slip-slidin down the drain!

Just noticed that they are now placing pop-up ads within listings. Ford, ING, etc. Wonder if sellers are afforded the choice to opt out of this distraction?

2) If it is ebay, it isn't indicative of decreasing revenues. Regrettably, it may be them wanting to boost revenues anyway and not caring about whether or not people care/like those types of ads (most do not like them). Many companies try to do new things when they run out of ideas to increase revenues. Doesn't always mean declining
3) Do you maybe mean flash ads and not pop ups? I do get a flash ad for XFinity under the right hand side seller information box
4) I know it is more popular to rag on ebay than not to
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>Ebay is trying to make more money in other ways without raising fees. I think that's smart, raise the fees any higher and I will quit selling coins on Ebay. >>
What makes you think that eBay in all their corporate greed, would hold the line on current selling/listing fees, or heaven forbid lower them even if they increased their quarterly profits from advertising sales?
The only real winners as it regards eBay are the high volume shareholders. Gotta keep them dividends propped up!

<< <i>1) I just went to ebay and looked at a listing and didn't see any pop-up ads. You may have malware on your system that is causing this...it may not be ebay

I spent almost all of last night browsing ebay and the best part of this morning into the afternoon and i havnt seen these pop up ads either. I also agree with the 4th point made , it does get tiresome.I counted something like 7 threads on page 1 yesterday with ebay in the title.

Sure, I do think think they will have a real problem on their hands if they raise the fees to much higher. One day another auction is going to replace Ebay if they are not too careful at least that is my prediction. I know a few dealers out their trying their hand at doing actions style listings these days. I think if they can generate more income from advertising it's a great idea.

your right, they never did ( more then likely they never will ).
<< <i>O.K. Bochiman, they're called flash ads, thanks for the lesson in semantics. They're all the same to me. And JCarney, you're likely correct about eBay not paying shareholder dividends. That doesn't change my opinion about how or why eBay is making revenue from these advertisers, which certainly isn't likely to ever benefit the grassroots builders of eBay - the JSP sellers. End of rant.
This is what I see.
I don't consider it a pop-up and quite frankly, of it were a popup, I'd wonder why my browsers, which controls pop-ups, wasn't controlling the pop-up.
This type of advertising doesn't bother me just like the running banner ads on the forums do not bother me. Other people it bothers. If it really bothers you then don;t use the forums. If the eBay ads bother you, don;t use eBay. Use one of the other coin auction venues such as Heritage, David Lawrence, Teletrade, Great Collections, Legend or any other number of venues.
eBay needs to pay for their services so they sell ad space. I'd prefer that they don't but then I don't own nor run eBay. I have no idea what their profit margins are. What I do know, is that when I buy something off of eBay, I don't pay a buyers fee. I only pay fee's when I sell.
On Heritage, I pay fee's to sell and to buy.
On Teletrade I pay fee's to sell and to buy.
On GreatCollections, I pay fee's to sell and to buy.
The fee's vary but I have to pay them none the less.
Go Bronco's.

<< <i>Use Firefox with Ad Block Plus. Eliminates practically all flash ads. >>
+1
Ad Block or similar extensions are also available on Safari and Chrome. Not sure about IE as I don't use it.

Totally agree. I really miss the old ebay. It was revolutionary. It democratized selling...like a giant, world-wide flea market. Now, it's just another money-grasping big corporation only interested in sucking every dime they possibly can from their customers. The ironic thing is that they don't even recognize who their customers are. Hint: they're not the buyers.
But they don't pay a dividend.

Yeah , there's much to be said for the days when it was a lottery if you got the item or not , i miss being ripped off silly ...sigh... show me one other auction house with anywhere near Ebays traffic that's cheaper to list items and you'll have my attention and millions of others too.

Get a pop-up blocker.
Most browsers have a pop-up blocker installed as an add-on and many people don't realize it.
