Personal images of my old coin on eBay now...

Although I no longer actively collect Barber Quarters any longer, I always look
at what is available. I spotted one of the nicest 1903-O Quarters on eBay in PCGS 58.
Knowing a few friends who actively collect these coins, I forwarded the listing to a friend
who is working on an AU 58 set. I said to him that more than likely he was tracking/ bidding
on this coin. He shot back that he was - and asked me what I thought of the example in his
collection - as opposed to the one on eBay. I thought the eBay coin was twice as nice as his
- and then he said - " that's because its your old coin".
LOL, I didn't recognize it - but here it is - I had it Tru-Viewed and also imaged by Messydesk.

True View:

I guess my question is - is it normally accepted to use images from my retired set to sell a coin once owned by myself ?
EDIT: In this case, I did not recognise the seller's name on EBay - but LogPotato advised me the seller was a member here
and we have had a communication - he was given my permission to use my images.
Sorry, Garrett

Interesting - I asked him to remove my images and use his own.
He probably won't listen - but - its the principle of the matter.
I use seller's images all the time when I sell - or - my own images.
I would not use a professional's images if I were selling as I would
be infringing on their property rights.
I wouldn't give 2 Hoots if he had asked for permission.

Great looking quarter, by the way.

Thanks, Justin.
I ran a search on the Barber BST - and I did not recognize the seller's name on eBay
but I did give permission to Garrett when he bought a few of my coins off the Heritage
ANA Summer auction last year.
We're good here... sorry for any confusion.

My icon IS my coin. It is a gem 1949 FBL Franklin.
I'm being PM's and Texted and Emailed as to my thoughts as to where it'll end up
at the end of this week... rather not say too much... I might just snipe it back !!

Ask and it's usually OK don't ask and the listing can go poof.

I know,,,, just not sure why anyone would care?
Now one time I was surfing eBay and found a guy selling a coin that was using a photo of MY coin that he pulled from my active registry set using my photo to sell a completely different coin that was actually a point lower grade than my coin that he used my photo of.
My coin was in my set and inventory,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
I eBay messaged him asking if the coin photed was the actual coin for sale. When he said yes I asked how that could be? He ended the auction shortly after that.
He was actually selling another coin that I needed and I bid on it and won that coin and paid for it and received it,,,,, not sure if he ever "made the connection"

Different people care about different things.
Simple rule: If you didn't take the picture you want to use, ask the person who did for permission.

I usually do that as well, what I got perturbed about was that an unfamiliar name
was using images I had paid for - without my permission. It turned out that the seller
of my old coin had been given my permission when he approached me for images
immediately after the auction last August.
We're all set here - Garret's a good guy - and I wish him well.
