I think someone else can chime in on this as well but I think alot to do with it is it was the first time ever a parallel card was so limited? Kind of like how the 1993 Refractors are. There are many cards made after that of lower print ones but it was the first of its kind. Makes it very popular and desirable.
That being said I never thought a card from the set would sell for more than $1,500 or $2,000
But we see what happened with the Jeter and now the Griffey
