The Big Easy is Always a Blast.

The wife arrived on Monday for a job interview, and I was able to wander the French Quarter. Growing up on the Gulf Coast I have often frequented New Orleans. I always visit in the Cohen Family's coin shop on Royal St. This time I found a few coins that struck my fancy, including a 1843-O $5 NGC MS 62* that had very proof-like services, and a beautifully toned 1880 S. I did however pick up a very nice ANACS MS 63 1921 Peace, with lovely surfaces of satiny steal-blue. The price was right, and I took it home. Their shop is highly recommended, and I guarantee you will learn something.
I did learn a little about the 1982 La Meridan Hotel Hoard that was excavated by a construction crew, as the latest date coin was 1841, I imagine it was originally buried then. The Cohen Family had one of the 3 original wooden crates on display with quite a few of the coins for sale.
Here's the Peace $!

No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
I did see the 1880-S you were talking about, it was a beautiful toner but it needed more reverse luster IMHO. I can see someone giving it a good look though. Another one that caught my eye was the 1885-O Morgan with the gold and blue end-roll toning, but I didn't pull the trigger there.
Overall a great B&M shop experience!

<< <i>Thanks to your post, me and my wife went into this shop during our visit to New Orleans and really enjoyed it! Nice folks running the shop and lots to look at besides coins as well. Before all was said and done, I ended up with an unc roll of nice 1963 Franklins, and my wife ended up with a nice Louisiana opal with ultraviolet speckles embedded. Definitely worth a return visit when we do our next trip to New Orleans.
