Naval Academy uses half dollars at football stadium!

This past Saturday took a family trip to Annapolis to watch Navy crush VMI 31-3 and visit our nephew who's a plebe this year. When I went to the concession stand I was surprised to get a half dollar back as my change. I looked over the counter and saw they had rolls of them. That's when I noticed everything was priced either as an even dollar amount or a half so the Kennedys were the only coins in the drawer. I guess half dollars haven't been totally abandoned.

They use half dollars for change at Mountaineer Field for West Virginia football games as well.

At our parish fish fry during Lent I sell tickets for the ice cream concession. The various options are multiples of 50 cents, so people buy one, two, three, four or five 50 cent tickets. This year I brought $2 bills and rolls of halves for the cash box and people loved them.

Haven't been back since I graduated, but now that I am on the East Coast, and heading to DC in June which is even closer, I will be getting to a game or three.

All the casinos went to their own tokens so theyu could get the profit normally reserved for the government.

I bet college football has as much clout in Washington now as the casinos used to.

Adjusting prices to 50 cent increments? The "we need pennies!" people are going to be very unhappy with this development.
