Late 80's baseball vs other sports

I am curious if anyone has an idea about the difference in printing quantities when it comes to 86 baseball through to about 1992 versus other sports. I see a box of 1986 Football is expensive in comparison to baseball. Same with basketball. Even Hockey. Same with 1987 etc. 1987 baseball has a great rookie crop and a nice classic design, but prices are held down by sheer quantity of the product. Did the other sports go through the same trouble or did they not pick up the pace until into the 90's? There are plenty of Jerry Rice rookies and Brett Hull rookies out there, but they still seem to have value to the cards while Bonds, McGwire etc are around $2.
