guys i was just givin a jar ofold foreign coins by my 80 yr old neighbor. i came across a 1946d jefferson nickle, no big deal right? however it was strange looking. on both sides of jeff therims are flat and look chewed, but on the rims are stamped xx both sides. so 2 questions. 1. what the heck is it,,,and 2. should i send it out for grade.......i do not have a working camera which pisses me off. but if anyone has any idea please let me know, i probably will taje it to a coin shop here in ct over the weekend. thnx dave update on one side it is stamped // just like that

Without a pic, hard to tell but I am 99.8% pure (sure) that it won't be anything but a damaged coin. Sounds as though it was clenched in a vise by some kid (probably) fooling around with dad's tools at some point in its life. You can spend it without remorse. image

I have no idea what you are talking about given your description.

Borrow a camera for some pics. Use your cell phone. Borrow a cell phone but without pics, its anybodies guess.

I think you nailed it there , i tried the same thing just now with a vice and then vice grips , it leaves a pattern not unlike 2 X's because of the curvature.

I think I recognized the symptoms, having tried out my dad's vise in my younger years in just that way! image

Not so fast here with the oh it's just PMD...well it is PMD, but a coin dealer, way back when, reeded some old Jefferson nickels and it was sort of his trademark.

Hope Andy or some other 'old timer' no pun intended but just have been around long enough for the full story.

actually the dealer put the reeding on 1936 Buffalo nickels and gave/sold them at an ANA show.

    I think it was Beebe
