What do I do with this?

I have this second year Johnny Bench. The card itself is not in very good shape. But I have 2 conflicting stories. It was once my cousins card who I remember saying a long time ago that he wrote the name on the card. Recently we chatted and he recalled the card but says he remembers buying it as a Bench signature. The auto is faded. Without authentication its not worth much. But is it even worth getting authenticated (assuming its real). And if not, it looks like it was scribbled on making it unattractive. I have seen this card in poor shape with some writing on it go around $10, but I dont think this card would fetch even that.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
I looked at auto's on eBay and the "J" looks right, but the "B" in bench does not.
Here is one example from either 89 or early 90's

From the 75 Topps auto, compared to what I am guessing is a more recent auto above it. The 'B' still throws me cause he does not connect the line at the bottom, but rather leaves it open and loops it.
