Fake TCMA Clemens on eBay

Dont mean to waste time of the seasoned collectors on here but in the spirit of education for those who may not know and along the lines of thinking of "Ripkenintheminors". Here's a fake 1984 TCMA Clemens on ebay. Look at "Pawtucket". The right side of the "A" and the left side of the "W" should be perfectly paralell. This one is not and is a fake!

  • Wow. I would never notice something like that.

Here is the real card REAL Clemens
I collect PSA cards of the following:
    Billy Ripken
    Cal Ripken, Jr. 1980-2002
    Cal Ripken, Sr.
    Hall of Fame Rookies
  • I must be missing it, but I dont see what you are saying and having a hard time seeing the difference between the real and the fake.
  • Look at "AW" in PAWTUCKET. The "\" that is formed from the spacing between the A and the W should be parallel. In the fake it V's up. See it now?
  • Ok, now I see it. They look like two different fonts altogether (the fake from the original).
  • The photos are cropped far different too. His hat is closer to the border on the fake.

it's too bad that a fake Clemens has about the same value of a real Clemens nowadays anyway

I'm not sure if simply the cap being too close to the border makes one of these a fake. I am not a printing expert but when you look at many of these, it seems to be that the lettering on the front along with the "P" above them move up and down in unison with the image. So where the Cap is closer to the top border, the lettering is shifted up as well. Like sometimes I notice the "P" scores a "goal". lol. Take a look at the white parts in the ankle and toes of the red socks on his jacket. Sometimes you see no white, sometimes some, and other times a lot. But it depends how far "up" the image lined up.

In addition, this set was corrected as their were many name errors in the set. Not sure if there are subtle differences on the Clemens between the original and corrected printings.

True this set got pummeled price-wise. It's good for collectors where previously this set was out of their price range.

Yeah, I guess you're right! Looking at PSA graded examples on ebay, some are cropped differently than others. Usually that's a good sign of a fake, but apparently it's not for these cards (unless PSA has mistakenly graded some fakes).
