1986-87 Fleer Basketball PSA 10 Set on eBay

Missing Jordan and Kareem. A Jordan I think would double the price of the set?

  • I'm sure you can buy a Jordan PSA 10 for less than 45K. That's a great looking set though.

As great a set as it is, I just feel it's overpriced. It's just not that rare IMO, at least not to justify the price. And when boxes are ripped, you get like 3-5 of every card so there will still be plenty more to be graded. I just think there's far better investments in sportscards and better ways to spend 45K (if you're looking at it as an investment)

  • I thought the same. Without Jordan, it might be a $20,000 set, given the expense of having them graded. If you can get a box for $14,000 (which would be a better investment) then you can spend a few more on having them graded. Assuming the run is well centered.

That is a huge assumption. Centering was a major issue with the early Fleer basketball sets. I always hope for 9's but assume 8's as a general rule when opening any wax.

While you will pull 3 sets on average the odds of pulling Gem 10s are not in your favor. A whole set in Gem 10 is asking for a seriously amazing haul out of one box. At $14K a box that's a huge risk if 10s are your goal.

That said, $45k without the MJ or Kareem is definitely asking too much. I also couldn't agree more that $14k on a box is a better investment than $45k on a 10 set...bottom line is there is less 86 fleer wax out there than we think. Its a finite resource and at some point they will dry up completely. Gem 10 singles will always pass back and forth on the open market and in greater volume than unopened wax.
