ShipCover Insurance thru eBay

Were you aware that when you print postage labels at the end of an eBay transaction, it appears they have defaulted to "ShipCover" insurance? I know for a fact that you are not offered OPENLY an option on insurance carrier. It must be hidden in there somewhere.

Long story short, I had 4 rolls of OBW nickels from 1961 sold and covered with this "insurance." The priority mail package arrived empty on about April 15. Submitted a USPS claim, and it was denied. Sent an appeal, no answer for 6-8 weeks, so I contacted them through their website. No record of an appeal. Sent another appeal. Letter on Sept 12 says the insurance is through ShipCover and go to my eBay. eBay says its not covered through them, so they gave me a number for Shi*Cover, who are closed right now. Transaction is so old it's not in the system any more!

Look at your Online Label Records. Does it say any where on it who's covering it?

Grrrr!
Be careful!

I have come to the conclusion that insurance whether USPS or Ship cover is about as worthless as it comes.

I was told ShipCover won't cover collectible coins.

I had a package containing 12 silver $ get lost, actually the package was re-addressed by a postal employee to an abandoned address here in town. Post office turned down the claim twice, ist time they said it was delivered. wrong: wrong adress you dumb as. 2nd time they said they could not do anything as they couldnt prove it was an inside job, and that i didnt change the address. rejected claim. Only after getting help from the son of one of the secuirty guys that work for me in my store (who is a pretty high up in the postal inspection dept) was I able to get to the bottom of what happened. The claim was paid finally after about 18 months and susquently a clerk was arrested.

Best and cheapest insurance is tape. Very common for heavy items like rolls of cents to tear through shipping materials. --Jerry
