Double check: By 'chicken scratching' I think Tad means the planchet polish lines are not struck OUT of the coin completely. I've never seen a 1971 that didn't have some of this evident.

"Chicken scratching" is a highly-technical term of mystical origin, referring to the scratchy looking appearance around the rims, as seen in the photo.

jcping, if yours doesn't have that, please sell it to me ASAP and I will amend the description to say "... that is always found in this date with one exception".

Further examined my 71-P PCGS MS66 Ike by using 16X loupe, I found one tiny spot on obverse 10pm area with "Chicken scratching". Okey! the statement should be " .... that is always found in this date with one nearly to be an exception "

Okey! I might agree that I shouldn't use 16X loupe to view any Ike coin

Sounds like a nice coin! I'd be curious to know if that's one I've handled before. I've had a couple that were more toned and much of the "scratchiness" was masked.

Now if you next tell me that it's also fully brilliant I'm buying a plane ticket to come see it!

If the coin luster is good, it will be in an MS67 holder. The luster is an average luster, the strike is good, and the surface is very clean. I believe it is a solid 6.
