Some one had a thread awhile back about lost or misplaced coins. We had moved over 4 years ago and since then I had been unable to locate my "holed" Bust halve dollar album. My wife was cleaning yesterday and found a shoe box with the album in it. Maybe she should clean my closet more often.

I had some other coins in there too. One big problem. They were in PVC flips. Is there a way to get this stuff off without ruining the patenia on the coins??

Use pure acetone to remove the PVC. Search the forums for "acetone" and you will find directions.

Like Paul said pure acetone from a hardware store. Get a big enough glass container that you can get the coin in and out with out having to dump it. Swirl each coin around individualy till the PVC is gone, rinse in second clean acetone, air dry. Some also recommend rinse again with distilled water but you don't have to pure acetone will evaporate quickly with no residue. Another tip is to put a small amount in glass first to see if the evaporation leaves any residue to see how pure you acetone is. Good luck, its time consuming and not really fun.

it will be like sugar dissolving in water.

sugar-water residue is sticky, right?


well, you do not want acetone-pvc residue on the coins for similar reasons. change out the acetone, and rinse the coins off with fresh alcohol.
