***SOLD: Proof-Like 1937 Roanoke NGC MS 65 PL CAC Silver Commemorative Half Dollar

For sale here first is a proof-like 1937 Roanoke Silver Commemorative Half Dollar, NGC MS 65 PL CAC. Nicely reflective fields. Attractive peach, champagne-rose, magenta, and indigo coloring, strongest near the rims, attest to this coin's originality. Few contact marks of any note, save a couple on the brim of Sir Walter Raleigh's hat. Overall, a nice example of a Roanoke struck off of brand-new dies.

Proof-like Roanokes are scarce coins. NGC has only certified 34 coins in 65 PL with 13 higher.

It's even tougher to get a PL Roanoke approved by CAC! CAC has only approved 6 PL Roanokes, 5 in 65 PL and 1 in 66 PL. On proof-like commems, CAC is evaluating both the numeric grade AND the qualification for proof-like designation. Most coins graded don't make both cuts, and I know of several PL Roanoke's that CAC would not sticker.

This coin is housed in an old no-line NGC fatty holder with a pristine hologram on the reverse. This coin has been well-cared-for over the years, not in-and-out of dealers' cases and auctions.

The last couple of NON-CAC MS 65 PL Roanokes have sold for $805 on Heritage (would now be $822.50 with their new higher buyer's fee), but a 65 PL hasn't been offered at auction for over 20 months. And a CAC MS 65 PL has never been offered through Heritage.

Price: $800 shipped. Payment by regular PayPal (if you have a PayPal-confirmed address), check, or USPS money order.
