ebay buyer for the blocked list, sjwinnick

I received my 1st negative this weekend (over a $14 card)for a card that was delayed by the post office, even after I refunded the guy and he received the card , hasn't paid , he still feels the need to reply to his negative feedback complaining how long it took to get the card when it was clearly the post office.

here is the feedback,

Never recvd the card doesnt show it was ever shipped or scanned refunded money

Reply by duncan300 (Sep-15-12 06:56):
post office lost item. issued immediate refund, completely unreasonable buyer

Follow-up by sjwinnick (Sep-17-12 18:08):
unreasonable yeah right 12 days MA to CT this seller needs a reality check

this is my second dealing with this guy , I should have realized the 1st time. He claimed he didn't get 2 cards , I replied that he already left me feedback for the other card sent in the same package and that it was delivered based on the tracking, I never heard back to that response

you can make a decision about this guy but he is clearly not stable.

here is the communication chain after he opened an ebay case and left me negative feedback, start from the bottom

Dear duncan300,

oh by the way YOU!!! ruined your perfect feedback not me. welcome to the ebay way

Dear sjwinnick,

please do not look at my auctions in the future ,I have blocked you from purchasing any items. You are an unreasonable person. The post office lost the card , I issue you a full refund and you decide to ruin my perfect feedback. when the card shows up one day, you keep it and you don't need to pay. you need it more than I do. best of luck in the future, Duncan

  • I never realized you were Duncan300 on the boards. I can say I've purchased from you multiple times over the years and always had nothing but perfect transactions with you. Sorry for the PITA over a $14 card.

Sad fact is that ebay has created an uneven playing field with no accountability..

While it may have been the PO's fault and the buyer may have been unreasonable, the correspondence seems to have escalated things to adversarial. While I understand your frustration, then tone of your replies probably made a bad situation worse.

If it was $14 card and you were planning on refunding anyway, why not take the high road with a simple, non-confrontational reply, "I apologize for any delay. Apparently the item has been delayed or lost by the post office. I appreciate your frustration and I am immediately refunding your purchase price. In the event that the item shows up shortly, please keep it as a gesture of good faith and please drop me a note that it has arrived so that I can rest more comfortably. Again, my apologies and I look forward to another opportunity to win your business."

While you may not mean a word of it and you're burning the keys entering him to your blocked-bidder list, it probably would've saved you the aggravation and the subsequent negative.

The communication I posted in the 1st post happened after he filed an ebay complaint and then neg'd me after I immediately refunded his money.

here is the communication that happened before he filed the ebay complaint(less than 24 hours after my last reply) and neg'd me :

    Dear sjwinnick,

    Hi Steve

I am sorry. I only had one card which I shipped out to you. If the post office lost it there isn't anything I can do besides issue a refund. I will let you know if I find anything when I check my post office box.

    Thank you,
    Duncan

    Dear duncan300,

I need the card for my set a refund is great but doesnt help me out

    Dear sjwinnick,

Hi Steve , the card was shipped on 9/4. not sure why it hasn't moved or showed a scan . I will check my po box to see if they sent it back for some reason. everything else that shipped that is moving so I am not sure what to say. Once I drop it off at the post office , there isn;t much I can do but leave it up to them . If it doesn;t show up, I will issue you a refund. thanks, Duncan

I think you handled it quite well, Duncan. Don't sweat it, your buyers know you are a trustworthy seller and as a bidder, a neg like that has
zero impact on my decision to bid on an auction.

  • Duncan, sorry this happened to you.

That buyer you're dealing with has 46 negs/neutrals when he's a seller in the past year.
Even without knowing all the facts, I'd have to say he's got some major issues.
  • If there's one thing that I've learned with eBay issues(minor or major), I think some buyers get their jollies from dropping a negative on a 100% positive feedback seller. No matter how you handled the situation, and I think you handled it well, some unscrupulous buyers think that it's the sellers fault, and thus want to take it out on the seller. The only thing that you can do is block them and move on....

I'm currently dealing with a buyer who's item didn't move for 2 weeks. Buyer messages me, basically stating that he thinks it's lost, and I need to refund or replace immediately. I tell him to wait another week, and I can tell by the tone of his messages, that I might get neg'ed for it, for something that is not my fault. Low and behold, it was delivered today.
