For those who think I am just buying anything...I own only 2 U.S coins so far...

My 1794 1/2 cent in PCGS VG-10 and my 1921 half dollar in PCGS F-12....I will from now on be asking advice here before I do any buying of U.S coins.

  • For now I am done buying for 2012 I will start back in 2013...so I will have more time to look around for a good price on my next coin....probably a nice 1795 or 1797 or a 1802 1/2 cent. You guys have giving me a few 1/2 cent dealers to question and I hope to make a good buy on a nice looking graded coin by PCGS.

I think you are wise to solicit the help of the forum. Good luck in 2013 and remember patience and knowledge are your best numismatic friends.

I've purchased between one and three coins per year since I became "serious" about my collection. I solicited help from very well respected dealers and posters on the forums for some of the purchases, and some of my purchasing strategies. Often times the people with the best collections may not give you the coins, but they'll give you lessons learned.

Although I like your 2 purchases, especially the 1794, you are wise to slow down. I think most collectors' regrets, including my own, are when they bought too fast.

Good luck! You're off to a good start. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy collecting.
I collect history in the form of coins.
