Whats a quick test for counterfeit 90% silver

I like to buy some 90% when I go to shows and different places but I don't want to end up with a bunch of counterfeit coins. I have heard of a magnet test, does this always work for 90%. What else is there ? Thanks in advance for your replies. By the way, I have been a collector for a few years and I was talking mainly about very well made counterfeits. Would that even be a problem for 90% silver.

The only counterfeit 90% I have ever seen were morgan and peace dollars and world crown size coins. The weights have normally been off where you could feel it in your hand. They sounded different too, if you fondle them around you can usually tell. 2 real morgans sound much different smacking together than a morgan and a fake which sounds more like an eisenhower dollar.

First of all, counterfeit junk silver is not a big problem, though there have been scattered reports.

I doubt that a magnet would tell you anything.

Simplest field test is a scale, though if you are buying say $50 in quarters the seller is going to get mighty honked off if you stand there and weigh all 200 pieces.

Just buy from somebody you know that you know you can see again if there is a problem.

What CaptH said, esp. the part about buy from someone you know you will see again...or has been here awhile and can easily tell isn't going anywhere.
