Honus Wagner Autograph PSA/DNA (Buying/Selling Opinions)

Would you say Honus Wagner's Autograph would sell better as a single signed item or with other players? For example, this piece...

The other players are - Arky Vaughan, Waite Hoyt, Lee Handley, Jim Weaver, Bud Hafey and Jewel Ens (All Pirates)

Would there be any "meat left on the bone" at $800? Any opinions are appreciated

Thanks!

  • The Wagner is the $. The others don't add value to this page. Is it pencil? There also appears to be some staining through the Wagner signature. You would be much better off with a single signed ink signature for a little more. Even though this one linked below is lined, it is a better deal than what you are looking at. IMO

    Doug,

Not familiar with his auto. Does the fact that he uses his first initial ("J") add any value or is it common to find his auto both ways?

  • I would say that Arky Vaughan and Waite Hoyt add some value, Vaughan more than Hoyt.

As far as value??? I seen a 3X5 NOT sell on ebay for $850 and another one sell for $1,300, 2 for $969.

Most Wagner auto's that I've seen he does not add his first initial "J" for John.

As far as a quick flip, I don't know. This item is a Cut, not a 3X5 which is more desirable. Also most people perfer Single signed items or items signed by all HOF'ers.

Due to Vaughan and Hoyt you should be able to get at least $900 or $950. It could take some time to find the buyer due to the extra signatures.

    Good luck,

    Dave

  • Multi signed items are generally a much harder sell. I've seen his signature several ways with just Honus Wagner being the most common. Jon and I have a letter and I believe that is J Honus Wagner. Checks are usually John H Wagner. I've never had anyone ask a premium for the J but I suppose some might. Item, quality of signature and condition of the piece are still the important factors. This album page just looks somewhat damaged. It sounded to me like you wanted to flip it and for that I don't see the reward as I believe finding the right buyer will be more difficult considering the type of item and the condition. Given the fact that Wagner signatures aren't real rare you'll have competition on the selling. With nicer pieces being available for a little more a lot of potential buyers will opt for the nicer signature. The other problem I see is that it appears that the W of Waite Hoyt goes into the J of the Wagner or is so close that seperating the 2 signatures isn't really feasible. Good luck with your decision.

The "J" is very common on Wagner signatures. Later in life, he started getting away from the J, but certainly no premium there. Also, the staining appears to be tape stains to me. It seems as though there may have been tape on the item once, but that tape has since fallen away, leaving the stain. Overall, $800 is a fair retail price on that item. If you're looking for a quick flip for profit, there's not going to be any additional money there.
