Is Buster Posey the MVP?

Mickey71Mickey71 Posts: 4,234 ✭✭✭✭
Just wondering. Plays the most demanding position in the game and is great with the bat. On base over .400 and will have over 100 RBI's. .320 plus batting average. I would not argue with the choice.

In the A.L............Any votes for Jeter?

NL: I think it's Andrew McCutchen, but Posey, and Braun have a chance.

AL: I'd say Mike Trout is almost a lock. Jeter isn't even the best player on his own team (Cano). His batting average is good, but that's about it. He doesn't hit for much power, bats leadoff but only has 9 steals, and has poor range on defense.

A lock? How about Miguel Cabrera?
2nd in Average - 3 points behind Trout
    2nd in RBIs - 3 behind Hamilton
    5th in HRs - 5 behind Hamilton.

While they're not supposed to, I think the writers will be taking into consideration the fact that about a year ago, Posey couldn't even walk without help due to the leg injury he sustained. He's not only made a full comeback, he's established himself as a force in the NL.

NL Comeback Player of the Year is a lock. I think the MVP case is getting bigger and louder by the day.

Braun should get it but because of the drug test no chance. Posey shouldn't get it nor should any cardinal.

Trout and Cabrera are close when it comes to hitting, but Trout has 45 steals (and only 4 CS), and is a great fielder. In WAR, Trout leads him 10.3 to 5.9.

I'm not saying that Cabrera deserves it over Trout, I am just saying that I did not agree with the statement:

AL: I'd say Mike Trout is almost a lock.

There are definitely arguments for other players.

Hard to believe Jeter is one of the top 50 players in baseball. A solid contributor on a first place team. Despite a high average, only 45 extra base hits and 37 walks will rarely ever be worth even a 10th place vote for MVP

Have to take Posey over McCutchen. Offensively damn near tied, almost always have to take the catcher who's played all but a dozen games

Trout has a .968 ops with top level defense in centerfield. His baserunning has had the same value to the Angels as about eight homeruns. His WAR is 10.3 with a few weeks left. That really is close to historic levels. The last time an AL player exceeded that was Cal Ripken in 1991

With a 10 point lead going into the final game of the season, Buster's got the NL Batting title locked up.

Pretty wild how it all went down.

McCutchen went ice cold in August and never recovered.
    before August 1: .371/.428/.629
    after August 1: .252/.354/.427

Posey started catching fire in July and never stopped
    before July 1: .296/.363/.472
    after July 1: .374/.451/.622

I didn't notice this before, but Buster Posey leads the NL in WAR with 7.2.

My own observation of 2012 is that there were no NL players who had a knockout offensive year like in previous seasons. When your leading RBI guy has just 113...

It's fitting that the 2012 baseball season ended with both MVP's departing from the home plate area.
