There was a Bruce Paynter from the Chicago area who is one of the founding members of the Chicagoland Sports Collectors club from back in the 70's and 80's. I believe he was also one who organized a few of the Chicago area Nationals back in the day when the National Organizing Committee let local groups organize the shows. So if your Bruce Paynter is from Chicago, more than likely this is your guy and he is good to go.
I think he was also a District Attorney at some point and is now an attorney in private practice from what I understand.
This is the same Bruce Paynter that I remember from the old days of collecting in the Chicago area. If this is the guy you are speaking of then i would have no issue with dealing with him. http://www.paynterlaw.com/
Very sad to hear about Bruce's son. That kind of loss is so hard to get over and I hope he and his wife are doing wll.
I didnt realize he was still in the sportscards business and I would love to buy from him again. If anyone finds contact information (other than his law office) I hope they would post it.
