86 Fleer Jordan - Centering Oinions Wanted

So, been looking for a decent 8 for the past few months. Stumbled upon this one this AM. Made an offer at around VCP and was shocked that it was accepted. Do you consider the centering on this card good, great, average, above average, close to perfect, etc? For some reason I always have a hard time with these funky red/white/blue borders.

Thanks, Bob

  • Tough to tell from the angled scan. L/R looks pretty good but might be a bit off T/B. Looks like a fairly nice 8. Great color.

I thought the opposite. T/B looks dead on, L/R just a tad off.

Bob ... it's kind of hard to measure an image from a camera as opposed to a scan. However, I tried my best with j-ruler and at it's worst points, I get 45/55 T/B AND L/R.

That's a very nice 8. Angled scan notwithstanding, about as strongly centered an 8 as I've seen. You can check all the past VCP 8 scans to see where this one stacks up as well; I'm sure it will compare favorably.
  • After seeing the final in hand, VCP is about right. The angled picture makes it seem much better centered.

Well, card arrived. Centering a little below my standards but 3 mint corners and only 1 spot with edge wear is alright for me since I got it for below VCP. I'll keep looking for a better 8 that's less than a grand.

When you resell the card, be sure to use the angled image... it makes the card look a lot better and should garner you a much higher sales price! image

    Hiya Doug

I concur with your assessment. I think the person may have taken the pic that way to enhance the appearance of the centering? Not sure.

But, IMO 55/45 is very respectable. If dead on - I'm guessing the price goes up?

    Hiya Bob

I responded before I saw your post of the card in hand.

That was a very clever angle by the seller - the card now looks more like 60/40 T/B. Still a respectable card IMO.

Mike Nah all his auctions had photos. No scanner I assume.

Bob ... That scan is much better. Still a nice looking card. Congrats. I do agree with Mike that the T/B is about 60/40. Still looks 45/55 L/R.

    Bob,
Honestly...........when a seller doesn't use a scanner...I tend to stay away. He positioned the card to deceive the buyer. I probably would send it back as I know you are a complete stickler for centering much more so than I am.......and I don't like the centering on that card. Also, I would get this card in a 9. Be patient there is a ton of them out there.

  • That is the nicest 8 I've seen, the right edge wear on the blue is what's keeping it from a 9. Everything else is within 9 standards.
