Grade the Jefferson Nickel.

Each coin is in a PCGS holder with one graded higher than the other. Can you share why you believe one is of better quality, graded higher and what you believe makes it a finer coin than the other?? Thanks in advance.

They're very nice coins and what I used to call "21 steppers".
The problem with the pre-65 issues is that they were all saved in massive quantities and
most dates came nice enough that collectors are much less concerned with quality. The
'50-D is one of the better dates and there are still more than a million of them in Unc.
Then again either of these coins is close to what anyone is seeking if he wants the best.
Coin B - 66FS.
Both are beautiful pieces. Coin A IMHO appears to have a stronger strike and WOW factor color.
Coin B is nice but not as crisp almost looks PL.
Nice pieces Al. I would be proud to own these.
EDIT: These are proofs right?
2nd coin MS-65FS couple of ticks on obv, carbon spot on rev. detracts.

The 67 has - nasty dings on the jaw. a nasty spot on the reverse. haze, which is uncommon for the 39r40. they generally come nicer.
I like the toned one better. Less surface damage and the toning masks any carbon spotting quite nicely.
B -- 66FS (because of marks/planchet roughness on jawbone)
Coin A.-----this is a coin i purchased around 2003-4 in an ANACS PR66 holder and it crossed over raw to the same grade at PCGS. the obverse color is nice(a rainbow stripe across the middle of the coin), there are only a few small contacts overall and the strike is quite good. the flatness in front of Jefferson's ear is typical and the shoulder shows what i believe to be a die polish area common, especially on 1941 dated coins.
Coin B.-----this is a coin i saw for sale in a PR67 secure holder which makes me think i need to have my early Proofs re-graded. except for a few faint scuffs it appears to be absent any post-strike contact marks though it does have unstruck flaws smack dab in the middle of the coin. the strike is about the same as the first coin and shows a slightly better obverse but weaker reverse. with all that said, the coin is lifeless, showing the results of an overzealous dip which i presume had hoped to result in a Cameo designation.
I think #2 got the higher grade even with the cheek hits it IMO is much more well struck then #1.....which is a very pretty coin.

I still like A over B
<< <i>WOW, I guess PCGS does like em white, I agree Coin B does look like its been dipped

PCGS might like them white at 67, but 68s are almost always toned.
At least when it comes to 38-42 Jeff proofs.
