Who here has done a Tough Mudder?

I finished my second this weekend suckering my wife into the event. I did each of the events in Wisconsin over the past year. I am sore as a sun of a gun today but had blast. Curious if anyone else is a messed up upstairs as me.

I had never heard of TM until earlier this year and it's something I'd be interested in. I've avoided things like Iron Man because I don't tread water very well and tend to sink like a rock. How much swimming, and at what depth, did you compete in?

All depends on the course but I have not heard of any swims long then 50 yards. The Cliff dive is in 20 feet of water.

I can swim a couple hundred yards, but I have to muscle through the whole thing and become fatigued quickly. With so little swimming, it's something that doesn't sound so impossible anymore.

Good job in finishing. My wife is a distance runner and wants to do an Iron Man together...I think she wants me to drown.

I just could NOT do one of these. I did a 5k. That's it for me.
2.5 is pretty much my speed.

Bull ... As someone who has run a decent amount of marathons and raced some triathlons, I would STRONGLY suggest that you do NOT attempt to do an IronMan if you can only swim a couple hundred yards. I would first try to race a few sprint triathlons. An IronMan is a 2.4 MILE swim ... followed by a 112 MILE bike and then a 26.2 MILE run. Last year I was training for my first Iron Man (15+ hours of cardio per week, in addition to weight training). After training hard for 3 months I had a fall, in which I broke my right ankle and needed surgery on my left knee. Needless to say I was not able to do the race.

I'm going to have to try one of these when I get back to the States. My trail pace is 5:15/mile. I wonder what that equates to in this event? It looks like a normal military course to me... so much for escaping the military when I get home! image

I just did a triathalon this summer. The swim was the hardest part. i did not expect it to be that tough. Like someone else said, I had to muscle through it and fatiqued myself afterwards. The bike was tough with rubber legs and then the run almost killed me. I finished though.

  • I crew of guys at my Muay Thai/BJJ gym have been participating in Tough Mudder the past few times around. They absolutely love it. I for one have no interest in running through mud and such but I hear its a great time and very difficult. Big thing with it sounds like stamina, muscle endurance and team work.

I hit my early-40's and after ACL recon on each knee (one in mid-90's and one in '00), I started running last year. I have done 2 Warrior Dashes ('11 and '12 Carolinas WD in Huntersville, NC) 6 or so 5k's, and a half marathon. Doing another half marathon in a couple of weeks. The Warrior Dash was the most fun, though. It tests a lot more that the fact that you can run. I would be interested in doing one of the Spartan Races. I heard they are grueling as he||.

  • I just looked up the details of this race. It looks insane. Now I have to start training for it.

I'm building a 1968 and a 1970 Topps set. I have lots of 1970s and 1960s to offer in trade.
  • I did one this morning... in my bathroom... on my man throne.

    Brutal.

    Lasted a good 20 minutes.

    Sweated a lot.

Weighed about two pounds less when finished.

The sense of accomplishment makes me want to do another soon.

  • It's funny. I'm on a few internet message boards. I'm a moderator on one fairly successful, sports-related message board. Yet, the first time I read the term "ALT" was on CU. There's some popular message boards where that internet slang term doesn't exist. But not here. A little bit of humor has a board veteran calling you an ALT. Pretty sensitive environment I guess.

Well, that's my second post unrelated to the topic. So rather than venture into "troll" territory (I've used that one before myself)... you can have the final response. Just don't attempt to be humorous... that is ALT-esque apparently. image

Capitals ... humorous is great and I, like many others here, welcome you to join in with both serious and funny contributions. However, looking at what you wrote I do not think most ADULTS would consider it funny. Maybe I am in the minority ... I don't know.

I'm officially a troll with this post... damn it. But I like Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle, Bill Cosby, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Comedy Central Roasts, Tosh 2.0, etc. All venture into some pretty obscene topics but are funny. I'm not saying I'm funny. But we all have different brands of humors. No need to call someone an ALT because of that. And no worries, I'm not making my stage debut any time soon. image
