Wreath Crown Discussion

There is an interesting discussion on Wreath Crowns on www.predecimal.com These are very difficult to differentiate currency versus proof, and there is certainly some doubt as to whether some of the pieces certified as proof by TPGs may in fact be earlier strike currency pieces. I have had some difficulty in determining this myself, but tend to concur.

I have a 1927 Proof- These really need to be tilted and closely examined

Virtually all 1927s are proofs. I have seen a very similar specimen pattern out of the Pretoria mint collection and of course the ultra-rare matte proofs of that date...The discussion was about the 1928-1934 and 1936 VIP proof crowns and differentiating them from their currency brethren.

I know all 1927s are Proofs- it is the only wreath proof I own. My point is that the fields are not that deep and tilting is a means that helps
