Does the rough cut on this card bother anyone?

This auction is ending tonight with PWCC and I was wondering everyones opinion on the rough cut on the right side? Doesnt this usually affect grading? PWCC did verify to me that it is indeed a rough cut. Thanks!!

If I'm buying a "9" and paying that kind of money, I want that card to have 4 smooth edges.

On that card I agree. It did make me happy as I have a raw one that I am pretty sure will grade a 9.

OT but what do you think of a rough cut on say a 54 Topps Aaron?

Beautiful 9. Fills the holder and nice authentic edges.
  • The perfect top to bottom centering allows that to fall under a PSA 9 even though the sides are a bit off.

    The edges are great imo.

"Rough Cut" is like a bad marketing slogan that someone came up with to sell defective cards. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the printer miscut one side of a card or if you dropped it on the floor- The result is that your card has a flaw. I can't believe some people pay for defective cards as if the "rough cut" weren't there. Makes no sense.

I might start adding the term "kitchen floor" to some of my cards that I've dropped that now have a dinged corner. You know.........because its not really a "problem" with the card, its just a "kitchen floor."

The rough cut is bad but...

the mark on his bicep is terrible.

No way that card should 9 with that and the l/r centering.

    I sub that I get a 7 at best.

  • The most amazing thing about that card is that it has probably spent more of it's life inside a PSA holder than out of one. There aren't too many 40 year old cards like that!

IMO, the rough cut on that card is very minor. The print dot, which I thought was typically found in the yellow background above his arm, bothers me more than the rough cut.

The rough cut looks minor to me. I'm okay with the grade....but that doesn't mean I would buy it. The print mark would keep me away.

Contrary to popular belief, rough cuts look great...

Yes, I typically don't mind a rough cut if it's consistent. This one looks like someone rubbed an indention on the edge. Not sure how this ended up in a 9 with the centering to boot, unless no fisheye on the elbow pushed it to MINT.

    Thanks,
