Is there any premium for an Englehard one ounce 999.5+ gold bar? A friend has one from the early 1980's. It's sealed in a brown plastic pouch that also has Englehard on it. Serial number is 26xxx. Want to let her know if it's OK to sell for melt or whether there is collector value beyond that.

<< <i>I would say not to much of premium due to the fact that it's .9995 and not.9999 >>
I have never seen a 9995 Gold bar. Usually that's the finess of Platinum.
Kranky, are you sure about it?

.9995 was a step up from the old industry standard of .999.
In reality it means nothing as to the marketability of the bar. Englehard is well known. No need to melt it.
