    No way
BTW that is a #19 '76 Brett PSA 9 correct?
  • mtcardsmtcards Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭
    No

I would rather just have all of them and buy a PSA 9 Bird/Magic with part of the 2 k

IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY

Keep your cards, take about half that $2K in cash and buy a super nice PSA 9
  • Yes, if the Bird/Magic is full-sized and accurately graded.

Correction the 76 Brett is PSA 8 (old flip unreviewed super nice). The 77 and 78 are 9s.

All the 9s were carefully selected and no dogs; so they are 9s that look like 10s but perhaps under the loupe reveal why they didn't get the love.

    Appreciate the input.

ABSOLUTELY NOT.. buy the nicest 9 ( or two of them with the $2k)
and send for a bump till you get it

No one can accurately give you an answer. Just looking at it I say no. But I have no knowledge of the scarcity of the PSA-10 bird/magic card. Really depends on what you want. If it is a card you covet then yes I would. May not come up for a long time.
  • that sure is a lot to give up.

can we see the Bird/Magic 10? (without the flip, of course)

i'd have to be knocked over by the scan to think about making that trade.

a friend of mine has one of the nicest PSA 9's ive ever seen. minimal to zero print marks or tilt, great centering. im sure on any given day, it would have a shot at a 10

Is that supposed to be a PSA 10 '79 Murphy? Isn't that like a $3000 card by itself?
  • MattyCMattyC Posts: 1,335 ✭✭
Sorry C-Note that 79 Murphy is a 9-- hit the wrong button.

These responses are very helpful. I believe the Bird Magic is a POP 18 in PSA 10 but it hardly every comes up. One is on ebay from PWCC right now at 10,000. It seems very nice but MAY have a tiny smudge by the name in the Dr. J panel.

What has really amazed me about the Bird Magic is just how ugly all the 9s I've ever seen are.

Absolutely not. Not even close. There is still plenty of unopened BK that year and the pop will go up over time. You have some cards there that would be too difficult to replace. I agree with buying the nicest 9 you can and keep resubbing. Maybe have someone who does some big time subbing send it in for you. Is a psa 10 worth that much more to you than a beautiful 9 that looks like a 10? Boil it down, it's just a nice card in a plastic tomb. There are surely 9s that look exactly the same and you wouldnt know the difference.

    Yankee,

I totally, deeply agree with your assessment of 9s vs 10s; that has actually been my collecting philosophy for some time now. Actually wrote about it at length in some threads a ways back.

Yet with this particular card, literally all the 9s I've seen over the past few years have been unappealing for one reason or another, and so I have begun to wonder if finding a really high-end 9 with this card is something of a chimera, and thus enters the temptation to grab the 10. I am admittedly not expert on the amount of unopened product from the Bird/Magic set, but what I have seen is that it is plagued by several issues right out of the pack.

I will def use this poll feature/thread when facing another such collecting quandary; making these choices in a vacuum or even with one or two other trusted opinions can be tough!
  • The Magic/Bird is an awesome card, but no. Just seems like you are giving up too much. Too many tough cards for one that is a POP 18.
  • MBMiller25MBMiller25 Posts: 6,057 ✭✭
I'de make the trade, but I guess I am biased, as I just did a similar transaction. I look at the cards mentioned, and aside from the 75 Ryan Mini, the others are fairly replaceable at a later time.

I am not sure the $2K your kicking in is necessary. Seems like a fair deal with just the cards, but I was doing really quick math. I might be mistaken.

+100 for using chimera on a non-D&D Board. fwiw, I tend to be in the camp that says you're giving up too much in this deal.

I would get the Bird Magic. That card is probably the most undervalued card in the hobby in all sports. You are getting the rookie card of two all time greats on the same card and they saved basketball. That is a very hard card to find given the print marks that most have. You can replace most of your cards on ebay at any given time. The Bird Magic card has alot of upside.

While we are on the subject of PSA 10 Bird/Magics, what do we all think of the one from PWCC right now? Centering looks great but is there a smudge on the Dr. J panel by the name?

I would be terrified to make that trade. Seems like a LOT to give up, especially given that you're including $2000.

Hell No! Not even close. You'll regret it.

I couldnt agree more. Take the 2K and buy yourself two PSA 9 Bird / Magic rookies.

  • You have an amazing group of cards. Me personally, I wouldn't. Your just going to want those cards all over again. Why not sell your doubles like your strawberry and the mattingly to get a head start. You can get some good cash for those and just do it the old fashioned way if you want it - save up. Keep your cards.
