Baseball Card: 80-89

Favorite is the 1989 Tony Gwynn. Of all cards, a crsipy clean 1989 Tony Gwynn just is so cool.
Yes, I know.

The Rocket looks like a bad a++ here. The funny part is if you look at the back of the card he weighs 205 here. After the steroids he went to 255.

Either way he was a short time away from dominating the big leagues from this point and went 24-4 in 1986 when he was not on the juice.

This to me is one of the classic 1980's baseball cards that exist.

  • Very cool card. Not sure though I look at those wrestling cards, or the Roger card posted, in the same fashion as you or others do. To each their own, but please keep it that way

Am getting a scanner hopefully soon and wil post a 1989 Gwynn Topps. It's just 'art' without ...

Wrong decade and overproduced or not, I always thought the 1991 Topps Roger Clemens was classic. 'Suppose a Desert Storm version might not be so overproduced.

I've always like this one. Future HOF'er winding down his career, with 3 generations of baseball fans in the background.

Since we're looking at '87 Topps, I think this one is just about perfect.

There is so much going on and so many questions that need to be answered.
  • Who is that mysterious dark glasses man staring at that large man's freakish skin filled-in b*tt crack while another man plays with baseballl cards while having his picture taken sitting next to the previous stated activity. (wait, that isn't a large man's crack is it, it's just a back)

  • Best 80's card from the perspective of when I was actually collecting in the 80's was the 1985 Donruss Dwight Gooden. Either the regular card or the box bottom. Both of them were great looking cards of the greatest young star in baseball at that time.

  • Very good choices here guys, lots of great ones. I am partial to the 87 Topps Future Star Bo Jackson. Also a fan of the 85 Fleer Clemens. If he stared me down like that, I'd have soggy cleats..

Love the scans, especially the observation of the background in the Carlton- THAT is awesome. I agree with whoever said the '89 UD Grif. That smile never left his face during his career.
