Help with 8 Escudo value.

A friend of mine has an 1830 8 Escudo minted in Cuzco Peru. Does the date and MM value bring anytihing above melt in circulated condition?

If I've got the type correct, this Cuzco mint 8-escudos would be KM 146.2.

    27 g, .875 gold, .7596 oz. AGW.

My 2004 Krause is way behind the times but it's fairly obvious to me that the bullion value of that coin far outpaced its catalog value some time ago. That particular date does not differ much in price from the others of the type, if that's what you're asking.

It's most likely a hefty chunk of bullion, in other words. Albeit a hefty chunk of bullion with some added historical interest. I've never owned an 8-escudo or in fact anything larger than a 1-escudo piece, Latin American gold-wise, nor am I likely to, now that bullion has gone so high, but it sounds nice, regardless of the grade.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Thanks for the response. I assumed as much, but wanted to make sure before I gave him the approximate value of the piece.
