PSA Pack Grading Taking a VERY long time!

I submitted 5 packs, received and logged by PSA June 22nd and still no poppage as of today, Sept. 1st. Is anyone else still waiting on their submission this long? image

You are on Day 46. Typical poppage time is approx 45 bda so you should see poppage within next week or so.

Sorry, Tim is correct. It is BUSINESS DAYS ... M-F, less Holidays and less the amount of days The National lasted.

45 or 77 I feel for the guy. That is a long time either way.
Hope you get them back soon.

    Doug is correct.

OTOH, you could always send them to GAI for quicker turnaround. image

I think it's days in tortoise years. Here's my scenario. I hand deliver an order on 8/2 at the National. Granted, while they are at the National those days don't count. Although they have the order in hand, they don't log it in until 8/20! That's 10 business days of "we got it but we don't start the clock yet". Now of course, at this time I have no idea when it will get done so I have nothing to complain about now. It will be interesting how many days it will actually take.
However, in my situation the whole time thing is a moot point. I wouldn't send the packs to anyone else so however many days it takes to encapsulate I have to accept going in. Not a monopoly because there is an alternative but it seems that way when you are heads above your competition.

  • I submitted a bunch of packs and they were checked in June 25. Still waiting. It was for the 45 day special.

    I have 8 packs logged on 6/29

    Not anxious yet.

  • Thanks for the replies y'all. I agree, it is totally worth the wait . . . I just HATE THE WAIT!!!! (SIGH!)Textimage
  • They must wait until they get a certain amount of packs before sending them out to be authenticated. image
  • So, now it's been 92 days since I mailed packs for grading, PSA listed them on my account two weeks later (on the 22nd of June) - I called customer service yesterday, and they have not even received them from Steve yet? WTF?! I know they have an estimated 45-day turnaround and those are business days only, but in reality, it's actually been nearly three months since the packs were shipped and am I the only one who thinks this is unacceptable?! Being the 'only game in town' that collectors trust and respect is not an excuse for slow service. I'm going to suggest PSA offers a 30-day turnaround service at an additional cost if we're to expect pack grading to take three + months for now on. Okay, sure, earlier I did mention it's worth the wait, but come on...... I need a hug.

It definitely sucks that they haven't gotten them back from Steve yet... but you're only on business day 49! Hopefully you'll get some quick turn around here in the near future.

I do agree that the slow service is unacceptable... has been unacceptable, and no matter what they may have been telling us... doesn't appear to be getting any better.

Yes, we still see the occassional post about someone with a 45-day sub that popped in 3 weeks (or less)... which often seemed more the norm back in 2009 & 2010... now, I'd love for my subs just to pop in time.

Paying extra for faster service, doesn't really work... or ease the pain any... in fact, I think it makes the pain worse.

Case in point, I started paying for faster service levels, based on the logic of that very reasoning (IE. if you want it faster, pay for it)!

My last poppage... 16 days on a 10 day sub

My current submission... today I still sit, without poppage, on business day 26... on a 20 day sub

Personally, this sucks way worse than having a 45 day sub run a couple days longer! I mean, I paid more... assuming better service... but they still fail to hit their estimated turn around times (and occasionally, and in the meantime, I get the priveledge of reading on the forums about someone else's hodge podge 45 day submission popping in 12 business days)

Has anyone ever successfully complained to PSA about their lag times? It would just seem to me if you're paying for a service that they are telling you will be delivered by a certain time and they do not consistently follow through, then that is grounds for a credit or refund. Or does everyone just put up with it?

  • I totally agree - if you paid for the 'faster' service, then by all means you should most definitely get it. I think since the service paid for was not received, then a credit or refund is in order. You make a good point about pushing for the upgraded service on packs if they can't even make that happen with their cards already. Grrrrr......

  • I have asked several times on the status of past submissions, most of which did arrive within that crazy 45-biz-day parameter. So, for the most part, PSA seems to get the majority of my orders out within that time limit. Still, that's a lot of days of waiting and just because they list it as such, doesn't mean they ALWAYS have to take it right up to the 45 day mark especially when it takes nearly two weeks to show receipt of our items submitted. Those days are not added to the 45-day guarantee as well as weekend days as we all know.
Don't get me wrong, I think they're an awesome organization with top professionals in the field, so I trust them 100% with any collectible I wish to have authenticated. I realize the inconvenience for them to have to mail out packs to Chicago for authentication every month before PSA can actually grade them is a logistic nightmare, but in order to have the BEST, you have to make concessions even though it directly affects those of us still waiting. I've learned to have a little more patience, though it may not sound like it. I have to admit, other than venting a bit on this blog, I worry about making too much of a fuss with PSA management for fear I'd get blackballed or perhaps the grades may be 'rushed' and not as accurate as one would hope. I'm just saying....... image

Bear in mind that turnaround time on pack grading is NOT guaranteed --45 business days is approximate.

The difference there though is a guaranteed turnaround time vs approx turnaround time. The CU club specials and pack sub turnaround times are not guaranteed. Don't forget, too, that with packs, PSA has to a) ship packs to Steve (once they have enough to ship), b) Steve has to authenticate them, c) Steve has to ship them BACK to PSA, d) PSA has to grade the packs and then finally e) PSA ships them back to the submitter.

I don't collect packs, but out of curiosity, if Steve is already authenticating the packs, why doesn't he just grade them also?

I have some packs that I have purchased directly from BBCE, and Steve has been kind enough to submit them to me to PSA, and I am running about the same. Goes to show, that even someone like Steve, who consults for PSA, doesn't get a higher priority!!! We are all equal when it comes to the slow turnaround of PSA!!! I purchased and he submitted the pack in early July!!
