Number One I don't know. India, maybe, though I'm thinking more like Nepal or somewhere like that. Central Asia, near the Indian subcontinent, if not on it.

Number Two is Zanzibar. The old Krauses (back when 19th & 20th centuries were in one volume) used to catalog it under Tanzania, but I think it has its own heading now.

PS- you'll find it in the 19th century volume, or I will, in a few minutes.

Update: Aha. Here 'tis. A one-year type, which makes dating easier for those like yours truly who don't read Arabic numerals well.

Zanzibar, Sultanate, KM1, 1 Pysa, copper, AH 1299 (1881). My 6th Edition (ca. 2009) Krause says $5.00 F, $15.00 VF, $40.00 XF, and $125 UNC. There were even proofs, which catalog $400. Yours looks VG-ish, so I'd say a three-dollar coin or thereabouts.

Ugh, LordQuickFingers beat me to the Zanzibar coin!

#1 could be about any Indian state from almost any era after 1800, I hate those things!!!!

Ah, so there you go. #1 is India after all. I am not surprised. I am a bit surprised it's from 1942. Had a more 19th century look to my eye.

    Really? Cool image

A Zanzibar pysa has been on my want list for over 10 years, mostly because I haven't seen one for sale in MS condition at the same time that I had the money to buy it. They are almost always offered in VG, F, VF ... I don't think I've ever even seen a true XF (that hasn't been cleaned).
