GAI Pack Grading Help Updated - Found Some Information

I sent off a pack to be graded last week (10 day service). Please tell me I didn't mess up by sending to GAI. I am hearing horror stories from my friends. I went with GAI because of what I thought would be a quick turn around time. Sounds like I am in for a loooong wait.

This would warrant a image if I didn't know you were being serious.

Lots of bad stories coming from there regarding turnaround these days.

I would never submit anything to them anymore.

I hope you don't have any issues. Good luck!

Dustin, GAI has had some issues with their turnaround time, but hopefully for you that is in the past. I would definitely stay on top of it though.

There are a number of collectors that prefer the GAI holder over the PSA one as it is lighter and holds the gum in place better with wax packs. Of course, they are easier to bust open than PSA holders so the temptation to rip them open is greater. image

Of course, PSA graded packs hold a premium over GAI packs as well in the marketplace based on the reputation they've built and GAI lost.

  • Dustin, I can only assume you had some pressing reason and need for a 10 day service. Hopefully you will have a satisfactory result. However, if time is not a factor you will be better advised to have PSA encapsulate your packs. The better reputation translates to higher value for PSA graded material over GAI material. Good luck. I'd get their phone number and be all over them- make sure they got it, when you can expect it, when it ships, etc.
Count me as someone that greatly prefers their holder but after they moved from Irvine I would never consider sending anything to them, and even before that it was hand delivered and picked up.
As far as I'm concerned they are a defunct company that had a lot of promise and did some things right but really dropped the ball.

  • Well I was sending a wax pack to them to get back so I could sell it real quickly. I didn't want to wait on PSA but I should have done my homework first. Uggggh!!

I am sure you don't want to hear this, I sent a rack pack into GAI 2 months ago with the 10 day service. Nobody answers the phone or returns calls or emails. I have written it off as a loss. It was a 1985 Topps Football with Warren Moon RC on top. We need to pass the word - stay away from GAI.

  • They have already charged my debit card. There must be something I can do. Please Help!! Can someone please tell me that they finally got something back from them????
  • After searching online it looks like there is some information on possibly getting my pack back. Demian Werner was even quoted. I can hope I guess!

I really like their new rack pack capsules. However, last summer in 2011 I sent in some racks for grading and it took 5 months. I paid for 30 day service. I called a few times with no answer. Finally wrote a pretty hateful email and they arrived.

I figured if I paid for 20 day premium service it would help. So, I sent more racks this February. After doing everything but burn the building down, I received notification yesterday they had been shipped.

Despite their cool holders, I am done.
  • If I don't get my pack back i could be out $ 400.00. image

Dustin, I think if you constantly badger them about the pack, they will eventually return it to you. That seems to be the theme with them lately. Good luck buddy!!!

  • Thanks Mike. Unfortunately some lessons have to be learned through experiences.

Werner's response seems more like damage control PR more than anything else.

wow, GAI's "it'll be done on Monday" has now backtracked to "next week"
It's always "next week". Best of luck, I'd be all over them until it's in hand- slabbed or not.
