Will Russell Wilson baseball items hold any value?

Russell Wilson, the rookie starting QB for the Seahawks this season, played minor league baseball last year for my hometown team. I met him a few times and got a couple of items signed (including a card from the team issued set). Is this something that would be best to cash in now for a few bucks while his name is hot or hang onto it and see how he pans out in the NFL? And if he DID make a name for himself, would a fairly rare item like that ever be worth as much as a /10 X-fractor Elite SuperParallel Reverse Negative Red Border Green Ink Jumbo Relic RC Auto?

  • Dump it now. Been plenty of similar situations in last decade or so. None have panned out but card prices spiked briefly at beginning of football careers.

I would at least wait until the season starts. He is an explosive player and could garner some attention early on.

If I had one it would be listed already. Waiting just leaves money on the table

I don't want to turn this into a debate for the sports forum but I think you are way off base on this kid. He's not a first rounder who was handed the keys, he's a third rounder who just stole the starting spot from a guy who just signed a big big contract. I don't think he's a Cam Newton but he's certainly got potential and right now hardly anyone outside of the Pacific NW knows his name. Add to the fact, we are talking a hand-signed minor league card that could get maybe $25. If this kid has a big game, you might be able to get $50 or more for it. I don't know how rare the card itself is but I wasn't able to find one with a quick search.

I live in North Carolina and saw Russell Wilson play for the Wolfpack for three years. He's a really smart and mature young man. He's no Ryan Leaf. He will be a success in life. Whether that includes NFL stardom, who knows?

Or the NFL season starts and everybody sees he's 5'9 maybe 5'10 and can't see over the OL. Good luck either way

Nice job on holding, there is a slight chance he could edge out Luck and RGIII for ROY.

<< <i>can anyone say Ryan Leaf?

I've spent time covering Leaf during his college years and Wilson this year and the two couldn't be more opposite. Leaf was a lazy bum living off his physical skills until he had to think in the NFL. Russell Wilson is one of the hardest working, dedicated athletes I've seen in a long time. Smart and poised, this guy has gotten better every week.

    Agreed

I wouldn't wait to long to sell, maybe right after the ROY voting, he should wind up third which should garner some attention.

Wilson's stuff is pretty hot right now after another great performance last week. Now might be a good time to sell if you still have the items.
  • no

I say hold a little while longer. It's still a longshot but if he continues to play well he could close the gap even more in the ROY race and generate even more buzz.

Couldn't agree more. Is RGIII a future HOFer? The guy is hobbling around on one leg already. Not fair and as the old saying goes, time will tell.

I'll try and take a pic of it this weekend. I also have an unopened team set that has hs card in it. I probably have a signed program or two, as I met Russell and had him sign a couple of times. He was quiet but seemed nice.
