Signature Confirmation Requirement Help

Hi guys,
Have looked but am unable to find answer on this...
Does the signature confirmation requirement for sales over $250 INCLUDE or EXCLUDE the cost of shipping? I recently sold a lot of cards for $245 but after I factor in the shipping the total cost will be $252. Don't want to spend the extra bucks if I don't need to.
Thanks Much
Jeff

Does not seem to make sense to me...but am sure you are right.
So if I take the cards to the post office to ship then my transaction is under the $250 and I don't need sig conf since there is no shipping cost associated with the order??

Jeff ... not sure what this means ... if you charge the buyer for the shipping, no matter if you pay the shipping thru paypal/ebay or not, the total the buyer is paying is greater than $250.00, thus sig confirm needed to protect yourself.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
The light came on after your post...here is the situation...
Sold lot for $245...charged $3 shipping...total to buyer is $248
Actual cost is $245 plus about $7 for insured shipping for total of $252
So, I guess as far as ebay/paypal are concerned the transaction is less than the $250 even though the actual cost was more?

I sold a Bobby Orr autographed card to someone in Canada for $249.95--below the $250 requirement.
However, I also charged the $32 shipping for EMI, so when I went to print the label in eBay, it flagged it, telling me that on transactions of $250 or more, I need to have signature confirmation.
I called eBay, and the rep said that the entire Paypal transaction is what they look at.
So, if the price of the item plus shipping charges come to $250 or more, you NEED signature confirmation.
If you are printing the label in eBay and it does NOT flag that you need signature confirmation, then you probably don't.
But if you're on the fence, like Zep said, you should probably just get it.
How many threads have you read where people are complaining about eBay $cumbags ripping them off?
Spend the extra money on Signature Confirmation. Personally I would feel more secure sending it Sig Con with no insurance than the other way around.

The $250 Signature Confirmation requirement is based on the Paypal transaction amount (or the amount the "Buyer" sent to the seller)... not the item/auction sale price.

<< <i>Collector - what you read was wrong. PayPal does not accept even trackable insurance in lieu of sig confirmation.

Thanks, Nick. Good to know.

<< <i>Thought I read somewhere that insurance implicitly includes signature confirmation, so if you have insurance, you don't need sig confirm. >>
Packages insured for over $200 need to be signed for but it is not viewable online. Paypal requires a viewable online signature for packages of $250 or more. So, you would still need Signature Confirmation whenever shipping a package valued at $250+. The only exception that I know of is with USPS Express Mail, which already includes a viewable online signature.
