An observation - JM bars tend to tone more so than Engelhard

They are both 999 - so why the disparity. Packaging? I find JM bars frequently that are almost black. But rarely Engelhard.

    JM gold also tends to have more orange copper spots than Engelhard as well.

    I've noticed this as well. The old style JM bars I have had were all more "prooflike"/reflective than my engelhard bars, which appear to be more lusterous.

    I have a partial sheet of older JM 1 ounce bars in their original plastic. Many are an attractive violet color.

    Is the plasic PVC? Sounds like it's not inert.

    JMs are often kept in cardboard boxes for years. They come that way.

    I don't know. The bars are squirreled away in a SDB. How can you detertmine if it is PVC?

    Soft plastic usually means PVC. Back in the 80's they didn't care much about it.

    Google Beilstein Test. If it smells like a new shower curtain then it's PVC.

    I immediately rip all my JMs out of their poisonous PVC jackets and give them an acetone bath.

    Pvc. Was not even thinking that is what it was. Guess I should remove my bars from it next time I am at the bank
